Promoters
MBRA's mission is to promote and expand bike racing in the state of Michigan. One of the best ways we feel we can do that is to support race promoters.
We've worked for years to help coordinate race calendars between promoters and provide a state-wide calendar for as many races as we can keep track of to help both racers and promoters be aware of what's going on. We've also worked to try out new programs, such as the Michigan All Race Team Series. We're always looking for new resources for our promoters, so don't hesitate to get in touch if you've got something in mind!
Race Event Trailer
MBRA owns a trailer that may be used by USAC-sanctioned road and cyclocross events in the state free of charge. Some coordination of logistics may need to be done to arrange use. Currently, the contents of the trailer are more tuned to a 'cross race than road event, but the inventory is being reviewed and tweaked. If you're a promoter, get in touch with us about it!
Road Motorcade Volunteer Guide
Longtime bike race promoter Bill Mrdeza sent us a document for fellow race promoters.
When we were putting on the Le Tour de Mont Pleasant, I put together a short description of the responsibilities of the volunteers participating in the motorcade for the races on the road. Since we were a point to point race, we had upwards of ten or more individual races on the road at one time. Each race had at least three motorcade vehicles as part of that race: a lead vehicle, a follow vehicle, and a wheel truck. The Pro 1,2,3 had more than that. I recruited and coordinated the motorcade volunteers for each of the seven years we held the race, including multiple pre-race training sessions for the volunteers. We had over 50 volunteers participate in the motorcade alone and 400-500 volunteers over the course of the three day race (road marshals, registration, etc.). As a result, I put together the attached handout as a reminder of what we discussed and the expectations of the motorcade volunteers on the day of the race.
I thought the handout might be a helpful reference resource for any promoter that is thinking about putting on a road race. Of course this is specific to the Mt. Pleasant race but can be modified as needed for other road races.
